This Country may be getting a Christmas special, which is fantastic news because that show is bloody delightful.
I mean, I say it’s delightful; it’s one of those shows that I can’t bring myself to watch more than two episodes of at a time, otherwise I get depressed, which has only happened with Chernobyl other than this. That’s not to say that I don’t think it’s great though.
Paul Cooper – one of the stars of the show and real-life father to Daisy May and Charlie Cooper – revealed the news saying that while the show is done for good in a series sense, we could be getting more.
Also the pair’s onscreen father, Martin Mucklowe, Paul told Metro:
“A Christmas special is a possibility like Gavin and Stacey but not for a few years.
“The kids have got other projects they are looking at and I think they will write another comedy together but they want to explore other things“.
Cooper then went on to say that – more or less doubling down on his previous statement about there not being another series – there could even be a film coming up at some point, further explaining to Metro:
“There won’t be another series but I wouldn’t say no to a special or a film maybe in a few years time“.You may also like
I’ve got to say, on a personal level a Christmas special probably seems like it would be more realistic. Feature films following on from British sitcoms consistently make around £2.65 in the box office, so I couldn’t see the BBC sanctioning that.
Christmas specials are more or less cheap to make and are pretty much guaranteed to be watched all over the country, since Christmas TV is f*cking awful literally every year.
I didn’t mind A Christmas Carol, even if it did take dangerous liberties with the source material, and last year’s Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special was pretty embarrassing.
Can’t wait to see what the Mucklowe’s are up to.
