Sue Barker is leaving A Question of Sport after 24 years of hosting the popular programme.
Former French Open Grand Slam Winner, Sue Barker, became the face of A Question of Sport as the longest-running presenter of the show and many will be sad to see the host depart the programme. The news comes as the BBC look set to take the sports-based quiz programme in a new direction and Barker claimed she understood the decision.
“I’ve absolutely loved my 24 years fronting A Question of Sport, it’s been my dream job […] But I understand the BBC want to take the show in a new direction and I’m sad to say goodbye.”
The show has also let go off team captain’s Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell. Both sports personalities have released statements which thank fans and note that they will miss the show.
It is unclear what direction the programme will now pursue, but many will hope that it continues the humorous and jovial nature that the show has maintained in recent years.
The BBC has taken the opportunity to thank the cast for their efforts stating that:
“We would like to thank Sue for her enormous contribution as the show’s longest-reigning host over the last 24 years, and Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy.” The broadcaster added, “Together they have ensured A Question of Sport remains a firm favourite with the BBC One audience.”
It will be interesting to see how the quiz show changes and if a new cast can continue its success.
Best of luck to the cast in their future endeavours!
