Black Widow Trailer. Is there any better way to start your Tuesday off?
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the MCU was on somewhat of a hiatus after the huge Endgame and the fairly quiet Spider-Man: Far From Home, but no, it’s back and it’s badder than ever.
Bad in the good way, I mean. It’s baaaaadd, bitch, you know? Anyway, the Black Widow trailer has dropped and it looks bloody good, making it worth the wait for the solo film we’ve all wanted for years from Marvel.
Have a watch and we’ll talk about it below…
What is the Black Widow solo movie about?
The details of this film are pretty thin on the ground, with us essentially only knowing that this might be set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
By the looks of things, Natasha travels back to Russia, getting intwined in her old “family” business. It does that thing I hate in films and TV shows when people fight for a while and then turn out to be chummy…
During the San Diego comic con, director Cate Shortland said of the plot:
“I think that’s what drew me to the story, [Black Widow]’s got so many secrets, she’s got so much vulnerability and I think that’s what makes her such a great heroine.
“In this film we get to understand her past and put the pieces of herself together and come out a whole person.“
Who is in Black Widow?
Black Widow of course stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, but alongside her is the likes of David Harbour as Red Guardian, a sort of soviet version of Captain America, but more washed up, Florence Pugh as her “sister” with the same training, Rachel Weisz as… someone… and many many more.
When is the Black Widow solo movie out?
There’s quite the wait between now and out next Marvel film, with Black Widow releasing in cinemas on the first of May, 2020. That means that there was just under a year between Spider-Man: Far From Home and the upcoming Black Widow. Big wait for Marvel Studios, eh?
There’s speculation that Robert Downy Jr. may be returning the the MCU in this film, despite his Endgame demise. My thoughts are that if he does, he may become the new Stan Lee, having brief cameos in every MCU film as nothing more than a bit of fun and a show of respect to the man who kicked off the biggest cinematic universe of all time.
Reporting from the Saturn Awards, Deadline said:
“Downey will be seen in the role of Stark one more time, however, in the Marvel prequel Black Widow in May 2020.”
Is that Taskmaster?
While this is completely unconfirmed and based purely on speculation, many think that the mystery man (or woman?) donning a full bodysuit could be none other than Marvel villain-turned-antihero Taskmaster…
If you’re unfamiliar with Taskmaster, he’s essentially a nefarious character who dresses like Skeletor and who has a photographic reflexes, meaning he can imitate any foe’s fighting moves… except for Deadpool who is “too unpredictable”.
I’ll be honest, I don’t think this guy looks an awful lot like Taskmaster – real name Tony Masters – but I suppose it could just be standard MCU modernising/making things less kitsch?
On reflection, maybe it does look like him. You can see that there’s a hood on his outfit that he isn’t wearing. Very interesting.
Yeah it’s probably Taskmaster. Has the bow and arrow and everything.
It’s good how I leave the things where I’m clearly disagreeing with myself and could easily delete in. Weird how more “writers” don’t do that.
