Time to put that mankini in the wash and find your favourite cushion to scream into while watching people fall for Borat all over again, as a release date for Borat 2 has been confirmed.
Deadline are reporting that the sequel will be catchily titled Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan. It will be released on Amazon Prime on October 23, just in time for Election Day in the US.
The follow-up film will focus on Vice President Mike Pence, and Sacha has written the screenplay with Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Dan Mazer, Erica Rivinoja, Jena Friedman, Lee Kern and Peter Baynham.
The movie was filmed in secret over the summer, with pranks making their way on to social media when Sacha was seen in LA dressed in the infamous costume earlier this year. A video went viral after he trolled attendees at an alt-right rally singing a racist song, while dressed in a cowboy-style outfit.
A teaser trailer has been released on a twitter account under the name of @KazakhstanGovt, featuring footage of Donald Trump.
In the days prior to the trailer, the account tweeted genuine-looking dull updates, but has since changed to a more comic style.
Many are intrigued as to how Borat 2 would work as well the second time when there’s a risk of him being recognised from the success of the first movie, but 14 years has passed since the original.
According to Deadline, Borat 2 was one of the first films made during the COVID lockown, with a minimal crew working alongside Baron Cohen and filming surreptitiously. The first film made $262 million worldwide, but with cinema attendance at a low due to the pandemic, Sacha allegedly decided the best way for the movie to be seen before Election Day was to release it on Amazon Prime.
