Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of the few shows that actually benefited from being cancelled.

I’d never heard anyone talk about it much before but then all of a sudden it was cancelled and there was an uproar. The public outcry probably did the show a favour because it made networks realise how immensely popular it was, which is presumably why NBC picked the series up a whole day after it had been axed by Fox.

By now you’ll be well aware that the show’s main character, Detective Jake Peralta, is obsessed with John McClane – Bruce Willis’ character in the famous Die Hard series.

I mean the trailer for the latest season pretty much confirmed that, with Peralta doing some very John McClane things – including jumping from an exploding building.

There’s even a Brooklyn Nine Nine video called ‘A Die Hard Obsession’ for crying out loud.

Everyone in their right mind wants to see a Willis cameo – his role in Friends was genius after all – and apparently so too does Brooklyn Nine Nine co-creator Dan Goor.

During an ask me anything’ Q&A on Reddit, he responded to the question ‘who would you have liked to have been the guest star in this new season and why?‘, to which he replied, ‘Bruce Willis for obvious reasons.’

Just make it happen – come on, Willis!

Andy Samberg, who plays Detective Peralta, has made a public plea to convince Bruce to get involved with the show before.

Appearing on Entertainment Tonight, he said just a sentence from Willis ‘would mean a lot’.

He said:

“I know we’ve asked him like 10 times already, but I personally haven’t.

“Hey Bruce – look, my character Jake Peralta on the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which is moderately successful, is obsessed with Die Hard and thinks that your character John McClane is the coolest character in the history of cinema.

“I, Andy Samberg, I’m a comedian, also feel that way. If you’d come be on the show, even if it’s for one sentence, like cool cameo, like we bump on each other on the street and you go, ‘Excuse me,’ and then walk away.

“If you had it in your schedule to breeze by just for one shot, I think it would mean a lot to the show, to the fan base.”

This comes after E4 recently started airing the sixth season of the show, much to the delight of UK fans. However it’s somewhat bittersweet as it’s already been confirmed that Chelsea Perretti – who plays Gina Linetti – is set to leave the show during this season.

Back in October, Perretti announced her departure on social media, writing: “B99 fans. Hiiiiiiiiiiii. Chelsea Peretti, here. I won’t be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in Season 6.

The good news is that a seventh season is on the way though, with it being revealed to the cast during a table read.

Here’s hoping Bruce Willis will have a regular spot in it.
