After the white male officer becomes aggressive for literally no reason, a black female officer can be seen pushing him away and confronting him as other police escort him from the riot that he more or less started.
Online, people have been commending the actions of the woman some have labelled a ‘Black Queen’ while in the video itself, someone behind the camera can be heard shouting “Yes, thank you!” when she intervenes.
Even after the inciting officer was removed from the scene, she then followed and continued to berate him for his actions, as showcased on Instagram by someone called Alex.
As a result, Fort Lauderdale police identified Steven Pohorence as the officer in question, which led to tensions rising even further. Local10 state that Pohorence was suspended with pay while the investigation took place.
Chief of Police Rick Maglione commented: “that officer has been removed from any contact with the public“.
Meanwhile, Krystle Smith was the heroic officer who intervened. When Rick Maglione was asked to comment on what happened, he said:
“She did what she was supposed to do.
“When you see either adrenaline or emotion or some kind of interaction going south … that is our job to do, is intervene“.
He was then asked if he believed that what Pohorence – who has been in the force since 2016 – did caused the riot, to which he replied:
“It could have added to what was already going on“.
