The role of President is hotly contested, but the United States has had a habit of voting for celebrities. A poll has now found Dwayne Johnson would be a popular candidate.
Whether it’s Ronald Reagan or Donald Trump, it is fair to say that Americans like to see the stars of the screen in the White House. This looks set to continue as a poll found Dwayne Johnson to be a popular candidate for the presidency.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had an impressive career which saw him transition from a popular wrestler to a film star. The actor has been part of box office successes like The Fast And Furious franchise, Shazam! and Jumanji. However, the actor has achieved an impressive social media presence.
The actor frequently communicates with fans and promotes good causes. This connection may have increased his likability and the possibility of him running for the presidency.
A study by Piplsay found that 46% of people would support a presidential candidacy from Dwayne Johnson. It also asked whether Matthew McConaughey would also be a good candidate for Texas Governor.
Furthermore, the study positioned the question in relation to political interest as both actors have expressed a possible desire for the respective roles.
The poll found that 29% would support both of them in these roles, while 17% would support Johnson alone and 12% just McConaughey.
Of course, this data isn’t reflective of the entirety of the United States. The study ran between April 2 and April 4 with 30,138 US adults taking part. While it isn’t conclusive, this is good sample data that has revealed interesting results.
Other questions in the survey found that:
“40% of Millennials would support both McConaughey and Johnson’s entry into politics as compared to 37% of Gen Xers and 23% of Gen Zers.”
“35% of Millennials and Gen Xers think Hollywood stars can make good politicians as compared to 30% of Gen Zers.”
Many will consider these surveys as a fun insight, but they could have an impact.
Comments from Dwayne Johnson
In February, Dwayne Johnson spoke to USA Today about a potential political career:
“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted. Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people.”
“[…] So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”
Given that the people seem to support him, 2024 may see the actor throwing his hat into the ring. With that said, some may be hesitant to vote for another celebrity after recent years.
