Thousands of fans have signed a petition calling for Disney to hire back The Mandalorian star Gina Carano.

Carano is an actor and mixed martial artist, and starred as Cara Dune in the Star Wars series. She also appeared in Deadpool and Fast & Furious 6.

She was fired after she made several controversial media posts.  Lucasfilm called her postings as ‘abhorrent and unacceptable’.

Carano’s posts had been slammed as anti-Semitic after she compared being a Republican to being Jewish in Nazi Germany.
The petition lays the blame firmly at the door of ‘cancel culture and Twitter’.

Called ‘Disney: Rehire Gina Carano’, the Change.org petition has attracted 17,000 signatures at the time of writing.

Logan Norfleet, started the petition and it reads: ‘Her recent (now deleted) tweet responsible was one expressing her dismay for the way conservatives are being treated by liberals today, and to do this, she compared it to the way Jews were being treated by Nazis in World War II.’

It continues: ‘I’m not going to say she was right or wrong with her views, but firing celebrities over their political views has been happening way too often, and once again, Hollywood has struck down another conservative.’

It adds: ‘What she said may have been a little extreme, and I can even see why some people may have been offended, but her tweet was not made to incite violence or to express discrimination or hatred of any sort to any particular group.’

“They Can’t Cancel Us If We Don’t Let Them.”

The petition asks Disney to ‘leave politics out of the industry and press on’, as The Mandalorian ‘wouldn’t be the same without her… rehire Gina Carano. Firing her isn’t justice.’

Carano has announced she’s working on a new project with Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire.

She told Deadline: ‘I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.’

Parler

The social media platform that is particularly popular with Republicans, called Parler, has come back online today. It was taken offline after Amazon removed support for them in the wake of the Capitol riots.

In a post on the social network, those behind the app wrote: “We will not be cancelled”

Mark Meckler, Parler’s interim CEO, said in a statement:”Parler was built to offer a social media platform that protects free speech and values privacy and civil discourse. When Parler was taken offline in January by those who desire to silence tens of millions of Americans, our team came together, determined to keep our promise to our highly engaged community that we would return stronger than ever.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back. Parler is being run by an experienced team and is here to stay. We will thrive as the premier social media platform dedicated to free speech, privacy and civil dialogue.”

They say only current users will have access this week, however new users will be able to sign up next week. Parler claims to have more than 20 million registered users.

Now Twitter users are joking saying that Carano will soon be making herself at home on Parler instead.

Do you agree that Disney should rehire Carano?
