Good news, everyone!

After Life season 2 has officially wrapped!

But how do we know? Because Ricky Gervais confirmed it in a video, that’s why!

In the video Gervais posted alongside the announcement, he said to the camera: “That’s a wrap on After Life 2!”

Everyone in the frame then let out a cheer, while Brandy the German Shepherd barked excitedly.

In the tweet, Gervais also thanked the crew and his fellow cast – giving a special shout out to his canine co-star.

He wrote: “Thanks to the best cast & crew in the world. Especially that dog. Good girl!”

After Life centres around Tony (Gervais), a middle-aged journalist whose “perfect life” has been thrown into chaos after his wife dies of cancer.

After contemplating taking his own life, Tony decides instead to do whatever he likes from now on, which sees him encounter all sorts of weird folk. Unsurprisingly, a follow up is on the way, with After Life 2 focusing on what happens to Tony when he discovers there’s things around him that make life worth living.

Holding a picture of the completed script in all its glory on Twitter, the comedian wrote: ‘Finished. 5 weeks till filming. #AfterLife2

And as Variety report, season 2 – which will consist of 6 episodes – is set for a 2020 release.

Back in March, Gervais confirmed that he’d already started offering up some ideas for what a second season would look like.

He said: “I always do that just in case I die!

“Now I’ve thought about it, and I really would like to do a second series because I fell in love with the characters and I’ve got an idea of where it can go.

“The second series is always better. Usually because you know the actors.

“There’s a little clue at the end of series one when he says, ‘I’m just going to use my superpower for good’. He can still be an a**hole, and just enjoy it more.”

Shortly after, he also revealed that everyone from the first season will be back for the follow-up – well apart from Julian, because, you know, he died.

He broke the news in a GAQ post on Facebook.

He said: “I cast the show in my head as I was writing it. Luckily, everyone said ‘yes’. And, yes, they’re all back for season 2. Except Julian, RIP.”

The 57-year-old also answered loads of other interesting questions about the show.

The post read: “The dog is a German Shepard called “Anti”. I called her “Brandy” in the show because I wanted a more traditional name that sounded a bit like her real one so that she would respond during filming. The dog will not die in series 2. I promise.

“The show was filmed in Old Hemel, Beaconsfield, and Hampstead to create the fictional little town of Tambury. The beach was Camber Sands. It was the best English summer of my adult life.

“I really did eat the vegetable curry from the can and the watery Weetabix. The fish fingers were vegan and I could tell that the kid didn’t like them. The joint with heroin in it was made from raspberry leaves.

“I only called the kid a tubby little ginger c*nt in my close up when he wasn’t around.

“I started writing the series in the summer of 2017 while on tour with Humanity. The seed of the idea was ‘Imagine if you lost everything and didn’t care about anything anymore. You could do what the fuck you wanted’.

“I chose all the music from my personal collection. I’ve never been able to do this before without compromise as I’ve never had such a good budget.”

We can’t wait for this!
