Disney are in the midst of a ‘live-action’ obsession at the moment, having just pumped out Dumbo (which was received pretty poorly) and Aladdin, which, again, doesn’t look a patch on the original.
The initial teaser for Lion King showed us a brief glimpse of Simba and Pride Rock but now the first official, full-length trailer has arrived and my, oh my.
I take back everything I’ve said.
It looks excellent.
In the trailer, we get to see a load of beautifully re-recreated, iconic scenes, from the stampede that ultimately – spoiler alert – kills Mufasa, to the hyenas and Scar plotting their despicable plans.
The characters look superb, and even though Scar is a lot less orange than anticipated, he still looks absolutely terrifying.
‘Life’s not fair, is it my little friend?’ he says – played by Chiwetel Ejiofor – as the trailer opens and the classic Lion King score begins.
‘While some are born to feast, others spend their lives in the dark… begging for scraps,’ he then says to Simba.
The visuals look honestly stunning and the voices seem impeccable – with the all-star cast being fronted by Donald Glover (Simba), Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Timon and Pumbaa (Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen) and Nala (Beyoncé)

Charismatic, witty, charming, engaging - four things Joshua Rogers will never be. Thankfully, he’s a semi-competent writer, who, after graduating university with two mostly pointless degrees, joined The Hook two years ago. Since then, he has honed his writing skills over the course of various sex related articles. Now, at the tender age of 26, he’s finally finished experimenting with (on) himself.
