Thankfully Naya Rivera’s son was found safe onboard the rented boat, as he told police that he and his mother went swimming, but she never got back onto the boat.
News anchor Robert Kovacik tweeted:
“Naya Rivera is presumed dead, per [Ventura Sheriff]. The actress/singer and her four year old son were on a rented pontoon boat on #LakePiru and were swimming. The son got back on the boat, his mom did not. He was wearing a life-vest, she was not“.
After the son was found sleeping alone in the boat at around 4pm yesterday (8th July), police began to search the area with helicopters, drones and dive teams, but to no avail.
As Chris Cristi – a helicopter reporter for ABC7 – stated on Twitter, the 33-year-old actor is now presumed dead. He wrote:
“After an exhaustive pre-nightfall search in Lake Piru, CA, singer and actress Naya Rivera is presumed dead in an apparent drowning accident Wednesday afternoon“.
Meanwhile, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Captain Eric Buschow said that they were able to confirm that it was the Glee star who went missing due to identification she left on the rented boat.
“He’s [Rivera’s son] in good health. The family is going through a very traumatic time right now“.
Taking to Twitter, Ventura Police informed people of the heartbreaking news, writing:
“The missing person at Lake Puru has been identified as Naya Rivera, 33, of Los Angeles. SAR operation will continue at first light“.
It’s absolutely horrible news and no matter how unlikely, we sincerely hope that there is some sort of light at the end of the tunnel.
Our thoughts are with Rivera’s family.
