Since lockdown at the start of the year, many people have been working from home and reassessing their work-life balance.

Plenty of people have found that they don’t miss commuting, and are now wondering whether a four day week might be for them. Google are leading the way, after they offered all permanent staff an extra Friday off, paid.

Friday, September 4 was declared a “collective wellbeing” day, and employees were given the day off to relieve them from stress and to improve mental health.

It’s not the first time that the tech giant has done this, after employees were asked to take the day off on May 22 to prevent working from home related burnout.

Google hoped the entire workforce would take the holiday on Friday, but if anything “business-critical” arose then employees would get their next working day off instead.

Staff at Google are expected to work remotely until at least the middle of 2021 due to the pandemic.
