Harry Styles is reportedly in final negotiations to star in a feature adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ acclaimed LGBTQ-themed novel My Policeman which was snapped up by Amazon Studios.

Directed by Tony Award winner, Michael Grandage, My Policeman is set in 1950s Brighton, England, in a time where homosexuality was illegal.

The film follows a flashback structure set in the late ’90s and revisits events from 40 years earlier when Tom (Styles), a handsome policeman finds himself caught in a love triangle between schoolteacher, Marion and museum curator, Patrick, who opens his eyes to a new more glamorous world.

Events begin when schoolteacher Marion finds herself instantly smitten with Tom, but despite her affections, Tom finds himself inexplicably drawn to Patrick – this leaves Tom torn between two worlds but later concludes it is safer to marry Marion. This results in the two lovers being forced to share him, eventually though, one of them breaks and all three lives are changed forever with devastating consequences.

Later in life, an elderly and invalid Patrick comes to stay with Tom and Marion and the throuple are forced to revisit the events from 40 years earlier including Tom’s passionate relationship with Patrick.

It is reported that Lily James will play Marion although Styles’ male co-star is yet to be cast. Sources expect the 26-year old actor to be paired with someone a little bit older than him.

Styles is reported to have been prepping for the role for quite a while, photographed with a copy of Roberts’ 2012 book earlier this year.

Styles is yet to officially confirm his involvement.
