The Indiana Jones franchise is set to make a big comeback and it has some interesting additions to the cast.
The original Indiana Jones trilogy captured the hearts of fans across the world. These fans can now look forward to another sequel.
While an archaeologist who doubles up as an adventurer may have sounded like an odd combination, Indiana Jones was a huge success. The films were critical hits and hugely profitable.
Helped by the star presence of Harrison Ford and the musical score of John Williams the films have become classics. As a result, many have been keen on more films.
With that said, the fourth edition to the franchise split fans, and some may be concerned about a fifth film.
What do we know?
Disney has announced that the untitled fifth film is scheduled to release in July 2022. The film will be directed by James Mangold who is taking over from legendary director Steven Spielberg. With that said, Spielberg will reportedly have a hands-on role as he helps construct the new feature.
Many will be relieved that Spielberg will be present, but Mangold has a distinguished career in his own right. Mangold directed Logan and the critically acclaimed Ford V Ferrari.
Speaking about the opportunity, Mangold said:
“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers.”
“Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine.”
“When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
Who will feature?
It is unclear what the story will focus on but many are expecting the fourth film to be largely ignored. Furthermore, given the accusations levelled at Shia Labeouf, who played Indiana Jones’s son, it is unlikely that the character will resurface.
Phoebe Waller-Bridges and Harrison Ford have been confirmed to be appearing in the film. The rest of the cast is yet to be announced.
However, there is information about the creatives onboard. The musical work of John Williams will also appear alongside Ford.
Lucasfilm released a statement about Williams’ inclusion:
“Williams’ unforgettable Indy soundtracks, packed with all the epic thrills, suspense, romance and excitement that fans have come to expect from an Indiana Jones movie, have become as beloved and familiar as the adventurer-hero’s signature hat and whip.”
A lot to look forward
While there is still plenty of mystery surrounding the project, there is a lot of excitement around the film. Moreover, many are hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the Indiana Jones story.
Many will hope that the charm of the old films can be adapted to a new audience. Given the creatives involved, which include a number of the original staff and some acclaimed new additions, the film may just live up to this billing.
With that said, only time will tell.
