If the events of the last few weeks were condensed into a Friends episode it would be called: The One Where Jennifer Aniston Gave An Office Full of PRs Coronaries.
Here’s the tea – I’m guessing poker is not Jennifer Aniston’s game, ’cause from what I can tell, she’s pretty pants at keeping secrets and throwing people off the scent. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful that’s the case, ’cause she’s keeping eager little showbiz journalists like me well fed with her content buffet. Yum.
Rumours of some sort of Friends reunion have been rife for an age now, but Jennifer Anniston is starting to suggest that all of our dreams could soon become a reality. Jen’s been back on our radar since she famously joined Instagram earlier this month (actually, no – just before that when she did the press rounds for Netflix’s Murder Mystery. That film was f*cking hilarious) and then almost immediately blew it up when she posted this picture:
My first Instagram post was a low-angle selfie of me on the Number 83 bus back home, FYI.
Anniston posted a snap of her and her famous Friends co-stars David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Le Blanc and Matthew Perry all hanging out ’cause dreams do come true, remember. Anniston wrote in her vest first Instagram caption: “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM 👋🏻”
Naturally, the snap got plenty of tongues wagging amongst Friends fans across the globe (that’s a nice professional journalist way of saying millions of fans went f*cking nuts); all wondering why the fivesome were meeting up and sharing a photos to begin with.
Then Jen made an appearance on her good friend Ellen Degeneres’ show earlier this week. During the interview, Jen told Ellen that the five of them would love to work on “something” together, but that a reboot of the series was not happening. Luckily, Ellen wasn’t having that answer (God love her) and after some poking and prodding, Anniston said:
“Listen, we would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is, so we’re just trying, we’re working on something.”
To which Ellen dropped the mic entirely (no doubt triggering that mass PR coronary I was on about earlier):
“We can safely say it’s probably not a reboot – a movie though?”
The actress joked: “Huge, huge, huge movie. We don’t know.”
To which Ellen responded: “A possibility that it’s a movie?”
Trying to brush it off, Aniston said: “I don’t know yet! I don’t want to lead people on.”
Jennifer Aniston played Rachel Green for 10 seasons on Friends between 1994 and 2004. The show revolved around six friends in their 20s and 30s living in Manhattan (as if). The series finale aired on 6th May 2004, and was watched by over 52.5 million American viewers, making it the fifth most-watched series finale in television history.
Something’s going on, and if anyone’s going to blab first it’s Rachel Green. Thank God.
