It just goes to show it’s never too late to land your dream job, as Joe Biden turns 78 today, making him the oldest president-elect in history.

According to The Guardian, for his 66th birthday Barack Obama “surprised him with cupcakes” then gave the then vice-president elect a Chicago White Sox cap, Chicago bears hat and “a bucket of Garrett’s popcorn” as gifts.

For his 78th, he’s the president-elect – or so it’s been declared – although Trump still isn’t having it if his Twitter is anything to go by.

He has tried to become president for the last three decades, and has been involved in politics for half a century.

Joe hasn’t had the easiest life. With his first marriage to Neilia Hunter, they had three children: Hunter, Beau and Naomi.

Tragically, Naomi and Neilia died in a car crash in 1972, days after Biden was first elected to the US Senate.  His son, Beau was the former attorney general of Delaware was a star within the Democratic party before he died of a brain tumour in 2015.

Biden has been married to the new first lady-elect since 1977. Jill Biden is 69, an educator and “military mom” with four degrees. She’s expected to keep her day job as a professor.

During his victory speech, Joe said: “For American educators, this is a great day for y’all. You’re gonna have one of your own in the White House. And Jill’s gonna make a great first lady. I’m so proud of her.”

His sister, Valerie Biden Owens, gave a rare interview earlier this year to Associated Press and said: “Everything that Donald Trump is, my brother is the polar opposite. I don’t have to make him bigger than he is… He’s good enough as he is, and he is prepared and I believe he’s uniquely qualified right now to lead … All of this has come together. My brother appreciates it. He can feel it.”

Happy Birthday, Joe Biden.
