John Wick 5 has been green lit, with the studio responsible confirming that film is currently in the works.

The third film was supposed to be the last one originally. Nothing makes sense anymore. This isn’t bad news or anything – the films are bloody great.

That’s right; even though John Wick 4 hasn’t been filmed or released yet, John Wick 5 has been confirmed to be happening (so now we know he doesn’t die at the end of the next one), with Lionsgate confirming that both films will be produced back-to-back when star Keanu Reeves gets the time.

John Wick 5

Back in the day, Keanu Reeves had nothing but time and now here he is, being the most popular kid in the playground.

Lovely stuff – couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer said during an earnings call, via Deadline:

We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two instalments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022.

We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year“.

John Wick 5' Confirmed By Lionsgate

The fourth instalment of the film was due to be released in May 2021, though for obvious reasons, that’s had to be pushed back.

John Wick may be seemingly invincible, but he’s not one to flout the guidelines during a global pandemic.

Director Chad Stahelski more or less confirmed that the film would be pushed back in an interview with Collider, saying:

Between how much we want to expand the John Wick – let’s just call it a ‘franchise’, I guess – and the pandemic, I couldn’t tell you a release date for the next one. I mean, Matrix was only four weeks in when this all happened.

So, Keanu’s gotta go finish his commitment up on The Matrix, which is a big deal and which I think will probably take him until the end of the year. Then we have to go into our prep mode and the we’ll start.

So release dates, I’m sure with every production from Dave [Leitch’s] stuff to our stuff, who knows right now“.

We’ll keep you updated.
