Johnny Depp has finally spoken about whether he misses his role in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Johnny Depp, 57, has made headlines throughout the last year. Unfortunately for him, these headlines haven’t been positive ones about his acting career.

Rather, Depp has been in the spotlight due to his tumultuous relationship with actress Amber Heard, who accuses him of abuse.

The allegations of abuse first appeared four years ago when she applied for a temporary restraining order following their divorce, citing the reason for the request as domestic abuse.

Depp later sued the Sun for defamation when it described him as “a wife-beater” in a headline. The UK courts sided with The Sun, who repeated the phrase in a follow-up issue.

The Judge, Mr Justice Nicol, found the evidence from Heard and The Sun proved Heard’s claims of domestic abuse to the civil standard, and therefore agreed that The Sun was not in the wrong to call Depp a “wife-beater”.

Depp’s Struggles Since

Following this, Mr Depp requested to appeal the damning decision in March 2021.

Unfortunately for Depp however, the Court of Appeal judges refused Mr Depp’s appeal application, stating that the original hearing was “full and fair” and that Mr Justice Nicol “gave thorough reasons for his conclusions which have not been shown even arguably to be vitiated by any error of approach or mistake of law”.

Amidst these legal battles, Depp announced that he had been asked to leave the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Neither Depp nor Disney have commented on Depp’s iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow since the abuse accusations began to affect his career.

Until now.

Depp was asked about Jack Sparrow while promoting his new film, Minamata, where he plays a photographer.

Does Depp Miss Jack Sparrow?

The actor was questioned on whether he missed playing the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow.

He replied: “No, I don’t miss it.

“Because I have it every day, I always carry it with me. I travel with Captain Jack in my suitcase. I belong to Jack Sparrow and he is loyal to me.”

This somewhat touching albeit humorous response seems to have avoided the real question that was being asked: ‘are you returning as Captain Jack Sparrow?’

It seems as though fans are still yet to know whether Depp will ever return, or whether he has been cut from the franchise for good.

However, it doesn’t appear to be promising news for Depp and his fans alike. It has already been confirmed that a new spinoff of the franchise is in the works – and Depp isn’t in it.

Instead, the spin-off will star Margot Robbie.

Who knows though, perhaps one day Depp will return as the much loved rum-drinking pirate.
