There aren’t many bigger names in pop than Madonna and the artist plans to direct her own cinematic story.

Madonna emerged with her debut album in 1983 and was shot to pop-stardom. Throughout her enduring career, the star has faced trials and tribulations and it seems that music has helped the artist through tough times which included a major fallout to the music video for the hit single “Like A Prayer.”

The artist has now stated that her biopic, which she co-wrote with award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, will also be directed by herself.

On her official website Madonna shared the news with her fans, and discussed the project:

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world.”

The artist also discussed some of the themes that would present in the film, explaining that it would address, “struggle as an artist trying to survive in a man’s world.”

Recent films like Bohemian Raphosady and Rocket Man have illustrated the success that these kinds of musical biopics can have and many will hope that Madonna can continue this trend.

However, it is worth noting that the artists last directorial effort, W.E., was a commercial and critical failure. With that in mind, many will hope that she can improve on experience and deliver a compelling story that manages the turbulent career of one of the biggest artists in the world.

After all, no one quite knows Madonna’s journey better than Madonna herself.

The film is in the early stages of production.
