It looks like there’s a job vacancy going in The Mandalorian cast.

Lucasfilm have fired Gina Carano for “abhorrent and unacceptable” social media posts. So the Disney show is going to have to find a new actress to play Cara Dune on the Star Wars spin-off.

Calls for Carano to be dumped from the show began after the actress posted an anti-Semitic story on her Instagram.

Carano, a vocal Trump supporter, shared an offensive TikTok post on her story. It drew comparison between the treatment of Republicans in the US to that of Jews in Nazi Germany.

The since-deleted post on Instagram read: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children …

“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.

“How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

Past controversy

Carano played the role of bounty hunter Cara Dune, and made appearances in the first two seasons of the show.

In a statement, Lucasfilm said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.

“Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The actress’s agency UTA have also let her go.

This is not the first time Carano has caused controversy online. She previously made light of the use of pronouns by woke Twitter users, by including the words “beep/bop/boop” in her Twitter bio.

After fans called her up for the transphobic action, Carano retracted her words.

She later said her Mandalorian co-star Pedro Pascal had helped her to “understand” the issue.

The actress wrote: “[He] helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to.”

Carano also appeared to support Trump’s claims of voter fraud after the 2020 election.

The actress tweeted: “We need to clean up the election process so we are not left feeling the way we do today. Put laws in place that protect us against voter fraud.”

Boycott Disney Plus

The incident has led to outraged Gina Carano supporters calling for a boycott of Disney’s whole streaming service, under the hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus.

But many mocked the hashtag, with one person tweeting: “Hopefully my Disney+ won’t glitch as much w/ less subscribers,”

Another wrote: “‪#CancelDisneyPlus anyway can’t wait for the New Wandavision episode”.

Before The Mandalorian, Carano appeared in Fast & Furiousand Deadpool.

She originally rose to fame as an MMA fighter, before turning to acting.

It seems Gina is just as combative online as in The Octagon.
