Producers are on the lookout for a young actor to play the chocolate-cake loving Bruce Bogtrotter, do you know someone that’d be perfect for the role?

The bosses of the West End musical recently launched a casting call to fill the role of Bruce Bogtrotter, in its upcoming screen adaptation of the hit musical Matilda.

In the call, it’s described they’re looking for an “incredible dancer” to play the child, who is a friend of the main character, bookworm Matilda.

Young male actors and dancers interested in the role need to be 4ft6 or under and must be at least nine years old by January 2021.

No previous acting experience is required and all shapes and sizes welcomed, but being skilled in dance is key for the position.

In the 1996 film adaptation, directed by Danny DeVito, Jimmy Karz plays Bruce.

In one of the many iconic scenes from the film, Bruce is forced to heat a humungous chocolate cake by Miss Trunchbull in front of the entire school after he steals a slice of her “favourite snack”.

Seeing Bruce gorge slice after slice of chocolate cake, the close-up shots of the chocolate icing smudged all over his mouth and Miss Trunchbull holding a riding crop and sneering as she forces the poor student to eat the entire confection is something we will never forget!

The new film follows the story of a young bookworm prodigy who is ignored by her cruel parents and attends a school with a terrifying headmistress called Miss Trunchbull.

At the school, Matilda ends up bonding with one of her kind teachers called Miss Honey.

Matilda the Musical, a Working Title Films production, is a feature film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’, based on the musical play written by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, to be directed by Matthew Warchus.

Filming for Matilda the Musical will begin soon, in Spring 2021 and will be entirely on location in the UK.

Any applications for the role should be sent to [email protected] by 8 December 2020.

The email must include the actor’s name, date of birth, current height and a recent photograph.

Auditions will take place in London on December 12th 2020.
