Ross is hands down my favourite character on Friends.

We share a lot of similarities; bit geeky, hopeless in relationships, fancy the pants of Rachel.

However, where we differ is that he (and by ‘he’ I actually mean David Schwimmer) isn’t a fan of monkeys. Can you believe it?

Of course that’s all the more remarkable given that Ross literally has a pet monkey – Marcel – throughout season one.

We only know this because Matt LeBlanc just told a behind-the-scenes story about David and the monkey (real name Katie) and it’s hilarious.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, he said:

“I liked the monkey! I like animals, and the monkey was really cool.

“Schwimmer… Not so much. He’s the one that had to work with it the most, so he was like, ‘Again with the monkey?’ But I got along great with it.

Apparently David’s fears were warranted, though, because one day the little rascal – Marcel – disappeared while filming a scene.

“One day we’re shooting a scene with the monkey,” Matt said.

“You know, sound stages are huge. The lights are hanging from the grid, and they go way up on these chains and the ceiling’s like, 60 feet or whatever it is.”

“It just disappears into the blackness of the stage,” Matt laughed. “So all the actors were like, ‘OK, I guess we’re on a five. I’ll see you later, I’ll be in my room.'”

Apparently it took half an hour and a lot of mealworms to eventually convince the monkey to come down from the ceiling.

Still, they all went on to have excellent careers; Matt, on Top Gear, David, in that viral video regarding the Blackpool thief, and Marcel who went on to star in Bruce Almighty and 30 Rock, as well as modelling with Kendall Jenner.

You could argue the monkey had the better career post Friends.
