In the same week that the world learned that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were taking a dramatic “step back” from their Royal duties (and the Royal Family), rumours surfaced that Meghan has signed some sort of voiceover deal with Disney.
Look, I’m pretty indifferent when it comes to the Royal Family. I’m just consistent when it comes to drama; friends, family, celebrities, Royals – I welcome drama in all its forms and from all parties. And Meghan’s been laying the drama on THICK this week, so I have to thank her.
First, she announces on Instagram that Harry, herself and baby Archie have decided to basically sack in the Royal Family (a move the press are calling ‘Megixt’ – stop it). And now, rumours are ‘soaring, tumbling, free-wheeling’ that this real-life Princess has signed a voiceover deal with Disney.
I must stress that this has all come out this week, btw. This content-loving queen is absolutely living for it, but bloody hell, the real Queen must be f**king livid.
According to The Times, the former actress (does anyone else still see her as Rachel Zane from Suits?!), the actress turned duchess has reportedly signed a voiceover deal with the House of Mouse. According to The Times, Meghan has asked Disney to make a contribution to Wildlife Charity, Elephants Without Borders, instead of paying her for her vocal talents. Elephants Without Borders is a charitable organisation that helps to track and protect elephants from poaching.
“The arrangement offers a hint of the couple’s future life, using their celebrity status to benefit their chosen causes.”
Meghan apparently lent her vocals to Disney before she and Harry made the announcement that they would be taking a “step back” from their Royal duties and moving to Canada. Reportedly, this resulted in some “tense talks” between Harry and Meghan and the senior members of the Royal Family, just before Christmas.
According to further reports, Meghan is also in talks with major luxury fashion brands regarding several projects. The executive producer of The Real Housewives franchise has also offered the duchess an “open invitation” to join the series.
Imagine Meghan bitching about the Royals over a rose with Lisa Vanderpump…
The couple made the announcement earlier this week via their shared Instagram account.
The pair posted:
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.”
The news comes after several months of speculation regarding the couple’s future with the Royal Family. Read more here.
Maybe Disney are adapting ‘Megixt’ into an over-the-top fairytale full of clichés. It’s not far off, to be honest.
