Musicians and creatives are rallying together, upset by an interview given by Chancellor Rishi Sunak that seemed to suggest they would need to retrain to find other work thanks to the pandemic.

Artists like Liam Gallagher, Tom Grennan, Blossoms, Blur and Badly Drawn Boy are tweeting to show how unhappy they are with the latest quotes from Rishi Sunak.

The Chancellor said yesterday in an interview with ITV News, when asked if out-of-work musicians and creatives should seek alternative employment, he said: “I can’t pretend that everyone can do exactly the same job that they were doing at the beginning of this crisis. That’s why we’ve put a lot of resource into trying to create new opportunities…” He continues that employment is still available in the creative industries, but said that “everyone is having to find ways to adapt and adjust to the new reality.”

Rock stars, creatives, artists and musicians have gone onto Twitter to express their unhappiness with the situation:

It comes just weeks after The Musician’s Union warned that a third of artists could leave the industry due to a lack of support and funding.

Do you agree with the musicians or do you think they should get another job?
