Deciding what to watch has become a logistical nightmare for many, spending hours idly scrolling before inevitably deciding it’s too late to start anything. Netflix has come to the rescue by testing a new shuffle option, to make the choice for you.

How about a date night of Netflix roulette? That’s one way to end the endless “I don’t mind, babe” “you choose” “no, you choose” debate before one of you spends half of the film on your phone anyway.

The button will choose a selection based on several factors: your viewing history, playlists and preferences, which hopefully means no horror choices for those who love a rom-com.

Netflix’s algorithm could also choose something that the user has not seen before but the recommendation algorithm believes it they will enjoy.

At the moment, ‘Shuffle Play’ is only available on TVs and it’s not clear how many people have been randomly selected for the ‘worldwide test’.

A Netflix spokesperson said of the trial:

“We’re always looking for better ways to connect members with shows and films that they will love. We run these tests in different countries and for different periods of time and only make them broadly available if people find them useful.”

Fans are hopeful that it will stay and make their viewing habits simpler.

This isn’t the only new feature Netflix is rolling out to users either.

The company is also bringing the ability to speed up or slow down shows to Android and iOS devices, following a limited trial of the function in 2019.

Question is, though, are you too fussy for this random shuffle to work for you?
