It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for, bigger than any government announcement… Bridgerton has officially been renewed for a second season!

The Netflix Original x Shondaland series has been likened to the cult series Gossip Girl, but with a period drama twist and boy has it gone down well with viewers.

Premiering on Christmas Day, the seven-episode first season was binged-watch by the world before we even hit 2021.

Starring Rege-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings and Phoebe Dynevor as Lady Daphne Bridgerton, the sexy 19th century show has had fans begging for more and it looks like Netflix has listened to them!

In a statement on Twitter, the streaming platform wrote: “DEAREST READERS, BREAKING NEWS… Bridgerton *will* return for a second season!”

After weeks of speculation about wether or not it’d be renewed for a whopping eight series at once, it’s great to hear we’ll definitely have at least one more season to look forward to for certain.

Considering the show rocketed to Netflix’s top five most watched original shows EVER within two weeks of it being released, we can’t imagine they’ll stop after a second season either.

The news has gone down VERY well on Twitter, with responses to the announcement flooding in.

Comments include: “My year is made”, “This is the news we all needed”, SCREAMING!!! I can’t WAIT, best news” and “excited for more racy regency romping.”

One even joked: “so..do u need extras cos i’m available thank u x”

Netflix also added a picture to the thread, one of Nicola Coughlan (otherwise known as Penelope Featherington) on her phone whilst on set.

The cast also seem to be returning, with a number of them announcing the news on their own social media accounts.

Coughlan shared a clip saying “Dearest Viewers, this author is proud to announce #Bridgerton Season Two, expect much scandal indeed.”

And Daphne Bridgerton herself took to her Instagram, writing: “We’re going for round 2.”
