Okay, so here’s what we know and unfortunately, it’s not a lot.
Oh, Netflix, why do you tease us so?
Netflix confirmed that season two of the popular superhero season was well and truly on the well when they dropped this photograph of the cast on their UK and Ireland Instagram.
The caption read:
“Just some good eggs taking a family selfie. Umbrella Academy s2 is coming soon ☂️”
The photo shows Umbrella Academy cast members Tom Hopper, Ellen Page, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan and Justin H. Min all posing for a selfie. In the comments Netflix wrote “@castanedawong and @aidanrgallagher you are also good eggs ofc”, addressing the photo’s missing cast members, David Castañeda and Aidan Gallagher.
That’s literally all we’ve got. *Netflix, you’re playing hard to get again*
Some fans have surmised that we can expect season 2 of the hit superhero series to arrive on Netflix at some point towards the end of 2020.
How do they know this? ‘Cause fans are nuts (I can say that as a super-fan of Buffy, Charmed and American Horror Story). Fans of Umbrella Academy have hypothesised that the turnaround for season 2 will likely match that of the first season. It seems that the first season took about roughly a year to drop – from when it began shooting (January 2018) to when it premiered (February 2019).
We know that filming for season two began four months later in June 2019 – so mid-to-end of 2020 is a pretty solid guess.
It’s safe to say the fans aren’t happy at the prospect of a long wait.
I actually love them. So dramatic.
Unfortunately, we know nothing for sure – apart from that the second series is “coming soon”. Netflix is reportedly refusing to comment on whether or not filming has wrapped on this season.
The Umbrella Academy is based on the popular graphic novel series created and written by Gerard Way – yep, the My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way – and published by Dark Horse Comics. The live-action series boasts a f*cking cool cast, including Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige.
Here’s the official show synopsis for those new to The Umbrella Academy.
“On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeve’s passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.”
I can’t wait around for you forever, Netflix.
