An all-star cast feature in the first trailer of Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s Trial of the Chicago 7.

Aaron Sorkin has written fantastic films based on recent histories such as Moneyball, The Social Network, and Molly’s Game.

In his latest movie, the writer and director is joined by an incredible cast which includes Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Joseph Gordon Levitt in his upcoming drama based on real events entitled Trial of the Chicago 7.

With the cast, director, and real-life stories in mind, many are already tipping the film for Academy Award nominations.

The original Trail of the Chicago 7 came about after protests on the back of the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Several members of the protested were arrested on the grounds of inciting a riot and this film looks set to illustrate the challenges they faced in the courtroom. The trailer shows the suspense that the accused must have faced and it looks set to be a dramatic film.

Initial reception has ranged from excitement to some concerns that Sacha Baron Cohen is treading into more dramatic territory. However, many will be happy to see a varied cast and this may mark the start of Cohen exploring dramatic waters more frequently.

The film will release on Netflix October 16 and it will be interesting to see whether the early Oscar buzz is warranted. With that said, the excitement is hardly surprising given the critical acclaim that other Aaron Sorkin films have received.

This looks like a great addition to the Netflix library.
