X-Factor bosses and judge Nicole Scherzinger have come under fire after Scherzinger “forcefully motorboated” Louis Walsh live on last night’s (Saturday 17 November) The X Factor: Celebrity.
I have to say, I scarcely watch anything X Factor-related these days, but this kind of sh*t has a habit of drawing me right back in. Not dissimilar to Louis’s head last night X Factor: Celebrity, it would seem. I obviously needed to know more.
Back in the days of Sharon, Cheryl, Dani and Tulisa you couldn’t drag me out of the house on a Saturday night. I was one of those X Factor viewings who didn’t give two flying f*cks about the contestants on the show; for me, it was all about the celeb performances (lest we forget that Beyoncé and Alexandra Burke duet) and the judges’ behaviour on the live shows. Remember when Gary Barlow said he could smell Tulisa’s “fag-ash breath”? I lived.
This year, ITV has scrapped the regular format of Simon Cowell’s singing show to test the waters with a celebrity edition. Truth be told, I haven’t been watching at all, but apparently we’re already in the live-show stages and Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh are all back as judges.
The alleged “motorboating” occurred when Scherzinger stood up from the judging panel on last night’s show and brought Walsh’s head into her chest for a hug, following a performance by contestant and former Glee star, Kevin McHale.
While some are shrugging it off and essentially saying, “that’s live tele for you”, others have been reminding X Factor bosses that their show is supposed to be a “family show”. Some social media users have even taken the opportunity to remind everyone that had Louis Walsh done something similar to Nicole Scherzinger without her consent, the reaction would’ve been “career ending”. Here’s a little taste of what the social sphere has been saying about Nicole’s prolonged cuddle:
The brand-new celebrity version of the show has gathered some huge names from the world of music, film, sport, television and social media for its first season. Celebrity contestants include the likes of talk show host Ricki Lake, reality queen Megan Mckenna, model and actress Hayley Hasselhoff, rugby players Ben Foden, Thom Evans and Levi Davis, reality stars Samira Mighty, Zara McDermott, Wes Nelson and Eyal Booker and influencers Sofia, Alondra, Laura, Wendii and Natalie.
What do you think? Was last night’s incident a ‘Schermazing’ TV moment or a step too far from Scherzinger?
