Fans were over the moon yesterday (Monday 18th) to discover that filming has started again for Peaky Blinders, for the sixth season.

Hearts then broke when they read the details and realised it’s also going to be the final season.

Creator of the series, Steven Knight, had dropped a hint that the series will be continuing “in another form.”

Of course, that clue wasn’t enough for fans, so Knight elaborated to Deadline: “Covid changed our plans. But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”

Deadline had no further info and they report that nothing has been set in stone for a film. The idea of a Peaky Blinders movie has been doing the rounds for a while though. Knight had previously told Deadline that Peaky Blinders is “a beast that will not die.”

There’s definitely been enough spin-off merch, as people can’t get enough of the show. We’re talking books, clothing, official soundtrack and also a video game. It’s also provided enough stag do fancy dress fodder for years to come.

Knight says he’s also been approached about a ballet version and a West End musical.

The fact the series is ending after season six has come as a surprise to many. Knight has always said previously he hoped to end things with a seventh season. It’s been said that the pandemic ruined his plans, after filming season 6 was delayed for just under a year.

“The Best One Yet”

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach said to Deadline: “This final season of our beloved Peaky Blinders is going to be the best one yet. Steve’s uncanny ability to be prescient about world events is only matched by his ability to make Tommy Shelby the most indelible character of our times.”

Season 5 was the most-watched yet.  In that season, it began with the financial crash of 1929 and with Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby as an MP.

Their best-laid plans for Oswald Mosley didn’t quite go to plan, and the opening scene of Season 6 will pick up where 5 left off. Tommy Shelby, in a misty field, brandishing a gun. Fans can’t wait to find out whether or not he pulled the trigger.

Pictures from the set have been shared on the official Twitter page.

Are you excited to see the Shelby family on the big screen to wrap up the series?
