That’s because a law firm in Brazil has made a new hire and to everyone’s excitement, it’s a fur baby! It’s a cat – how freakin’ awesome!
The cat’s name is Leon and the poor lil baby was a stray, just doing normal stray things like roaming around wherever he could trying to find some shelter and leftover food. On one of his journeys, he wandered into a law firm and little did he know that it would change his nine lives forevermore.
Naturally, some people saw the cat and complained about it. Who wants a stray in the workplace? Ew, it’s so gross, let’s get it out of here. But, to their dismay (in the words of Nelson Muntz – HA HA) the OAB heard their reactions and took the cat in and hired him as a new lawyer.
Dr Janette Laredo shared a post on Facebook speaking about the cat, where she said:
“After a heavy rain, this little guy here seeking shelter from the storm went inside the OAB building ( Brazilian equivalent of ABA, American Bar Association) and decided to stay…unfortunately some people started to file some complaints about the fact that at the reception desk there was a stray cat hanging around and trying to make friends with the newcomers. in order to avoid some new complaints the board gave the solution: Hire the cat as an employee…so, now it’s official this little fellow is responsible for welcoming the newcomers (whether they like it or not).”
Leon was originally invited to the workplace so he could welcome new guests (I’d be so happy if that was my job) but he was given a promotion! Yay Leon!
Leon now has his own Instagram account which has over 70k followers. He posts about his day to day life and how fun it is being able to sit around the office with everyone.
Apparently the reason people didn’t like him was due to his size and they feared they might step on him and hurt him (then watch you’re going – duh!). But the President of the firm (OAB) made good out of the little baby!
Bored Panda spoke to the representatives of Leon’s Instagram account, asking about him and how his recent hiring came about and they said:
“In February it rains a lot in the state of Amapá (Amazonia), so he arrived at OAB fleeing from the rain and thunder. For a week, he was fed and protected in a box. Until he got hired.
The lawyer’s representatives told Bored Panda that people filed complaints about the cat because he was very small and they were afraid they’d step on him when he came to meet people.
[They said] that there was no space for him because it is a serious institution. So the President [of the OAB] determined the hiring and gave him an employee badge.”
Since Leon has been hired, it has inspired the firm to make an animal rights institute which has been named “Instituto Dr Leon”.
So, there you have it. If you want a furry welcoming in your work, just take a stray cat in with you and make your boss hire them.
Kitty cuddles and kisses? What a great start to the meow-ning!
