The term ‘Easter egg’ is one that has only recently come into film and TV buff’s vernacular.
You’ll hear it associated with the likes of Avengers or Spider-Man when an inside joke or hidden image will be put into the film for die-hard fans (nerds) to laugh at.
As Wikipedia conveniently tells me, these little nuggets of fun are called ‘Easter eggs’ because audiences are encouraged to hunt for them.
Now that the history lesson is over, let’s get onto the main reason why you’re here: Friends.
The iconic 90s sitcom about six friends living in New York is one of the most beloved TV shows ever, and with it recently being added to Netflix, a whole wave of new fans have finally jumped on the bandwagon.
With that, people have started spotting things that us proper fans didn’t notice the first time around, and as it turns out, Friends is no stranger to the Easter egg business either.
One Reddit user was watching the episode where Joey ends up in Vegas to shoot a movie.
As we all know, though, it doesn’t quite turn out like that for the budding actor, who is forced to work as a gladiator in a casino when the movie is shut down over a lack of funding.
At one point in the episode, Joey rings up Phoebe back in New York because he’s forgotten his PIN number.
She gives it to him like any friend would do – it’s 5639.
While we never thought anything of it, that number actually reveals a pretty interesting joke.
Here’s what happens when you type 5639 on an old school phone pad:
It spells out Joey.
Yep, Joey Tribbiani has his own name as his PIN number.
Of course he does.
Not that it really matters, though; I can’t imagine him having much money in his account what with all the pizzas and lack of acting work.
How do they afford the rent on those apartments?
