Reality TV star Pete Wicks made a recent guest appearance on Loose Women today to talk about the mental health crisis, while revealing that he’d spoken to ex Megan McKenna over the tragic death of Mike Thalassitis.

Revealing Megan had pulled out of the show, host Ruth Langsford said: “Megan McKenna was going to be with you but obviously Mike was a boyfriend of hers and clearly she’s very upset.

The Towie star then revealed he’d reached out to Megan earlier this week.

He said: “I’ve spoken to her briefly and I think Megan just needs some time to process what has happened. It has come as a surprise to everyone especially Megan.

“She will be okay, but it’s just a tough thing to deal with.”

Pete admitted that he wasn’t particularly close to Mike but had met him on numerous occasions through the industry.

He added: “It’s such a tragic thing to happen to anyone. Especially someone who’s in the public eye and it becomes a big story.

“It’s very hard for his family. My thoughts go out to his family.”

Pete then opened up about mental health issues withing the industry, noting:

“When people see people in the public eye – whether that’s reality TV or anything else – you think it’s a very glamorous lifestyle, they’re living their best life. But you never know what’s going on behind closed doors and everyone has their struggles.”

“You brush it under the carpet and I’m really guilty of that,” he explained.

“It’s affected me before because people have gone, ‘Are you alright? You seem a bit down,’ and I go, ‘Yeah, I’m fine. I’m always alright.’ That’s always my response with everything.

“And I think that is because of the stigma attached to that, and even now, when you’ve got more men speaking out on social media, then people go, ‘Oh, well that’s not a real man, he’s crying all the time,’ and it prevents people from actually speaking out.”

In an Instagram post on Monday, Megan broke her silence following the news of Mike’s death.

She said: ‘Sorry I haven’t been on social media but I’m in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this. I can’t believe I’m even writing this post.

‘My thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family.

‘Rest in peace Mike.’
