Piers Morgan is known for not holding back about how he really feels, and he’s done it again.
Clips have been released of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. Piers has branded the couple “embarrassing”.
He accused the duo of “only wanting positive media coverage” and compares them to dictators Kim Jong-Un and Vladimir Putin.
Referring to Harry’s recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, he said: “Does it get any more embarrassing than this – being on an open-top bus while banging on about press coverage?”
“They’re dishing out left, right and centre. The whole thing is utterly ridiculous.”
Susannah defended Harry: “What he is objecting to is the negativity – it’s toxic!”
Piers insists: “They only want positive media coverage, who else wants that? Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un – they only want positive media coverage, don’t they?”
“That’s not how it works in a democracy!”
“Relieved And Happy”
During the new clips with Oprah, Prince Harry appears to refer to his late mother, Diana, Princess Of Wales.
He says: “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for her (Diana), going through this process by herself all those years ago.”
“It’s been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we had each other.”
Unsurprisingly, Piers was not impressed with this: “There is no comparison between the media attention Meghan got to Diana.”
He added: “The hypocrisy is off the charts – ‘Please leave us alone, but let us do open-top bus interviews’.”
However, it’s worth noting, Meghan isn’t seen responding in the clips so the wrath of Piers seems a little unfair.
The clip begins with TV legend Oprah asking Meghan if she was “silent or silenced”. Fans are assuming Oprah is referring to Meghan’s time with or after the royal family.
Many critics have commented on how Meghan sits holding her bump alongside Harry.
In the clip, Oprah also explains how the interview will make “no subject off limits”.
Meanwhile. she can be heard at the end of the clip saying: “You’ve said some pretty shocking things here.”
Oprah refers to comments Meghan appears to have made about life in the royal family being ‘almost un-survivable.’
“Best Interview Ever Done”
Meghan and Harry will have individual interviews with Oprah in addition to the sit-down interview.
However, friends and colleagues of Oprah claim she says the interview with the Duke and Duchess was “the best interview she’s ever done”.
Gayle King says on CBS This Morning: “It’s their first major broadcast since giving up their senior royal duties … and I’ve heard from reliable sources – this is Oprah talking – that it’s the best interview she’s ever done.”
“So I’m curious. I think that’s saying something.”
Meghan was wearing a £3,300 floor-length Armani dress for the interview, as well as Princess Diana’s diamond tennis Cartier bracelet. The jewellery retails for £17,700.
Also, she was wearing her £5,000 gold Cartier Love Bracelet. It was believed to be a gift from Prince Harry during the early days of their romance.
