Piers Morgan has continued to discuss Meghan Markle, this time on US television with Tucker Carlson.
After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared in an interview with Oprah, the British public was shocked. The interview noted racist concerns as well as a blind eye to suicidal thoughts.
Despite these claims, neither Harry nor Meghan discussed which individuals were responsible for these actions. This led to some doubts from the public. It seems that Piers Morgan has been keen to further discredit the story.
Piers Morgan’s opinions
While hosting Good Morning Britain, Morgan came under fire for doubting the validity of suicide claims. The following day on the programme Morgan attempted to clarify his comments.
Morgan stated on the programme:
“When we talked about this yesterday, I said as an all-encompassing thing, I don’t believe what Meghan Markle is saying generally in this interview, and I still have serious concerns about the veracity of a lot of what she said.”
“But let me just state on the record my position about mental illness and suicide. These are clearly extremely serious things that should be taken extremely seriously.”
However, the topic of Markle has proved to be contentious for Morgan. The TV personality stormed off the breakfast show after the comments of his co-star Alex Beresford. Beresford noted that Morgan’s comments on suicide were inappropriate and that it appeared to come from a personal place after Markle had stopped keeping in contact.
Since then, Morgan has continued to defend his opinion via more outlets.
What has Morgan said?
After writing about his experience, and discussing it on Twitter, Morgan felt he needed another outlet for his concerns. This time the personality appeared on Fox News with Tucker Carlson. The interview lasted over an hour and Morgan made some serious claims.
Morgan commended Prince Harry for his military service before adding that:
“[Prince Harry is a] whiny brat in his mid-30s complaining his dad isn’t still financing everything that he does.”
Morgan appeared to forget that the British public finance the entirety of the royal family. Furthermore, Harry now works for a growing business with a valuation of over a billion dollars.
The former Good Morning Britain host then went on to make claims about Diana:
“I knew Princess Diana well. I think she would be horrified by the split between Harry and his brother, by the schism now between Harry and the royal family generally, by the appalling smearing of the Queen, which is already causing damage in some of the Commonwealth countries, who are buying into this outrageous lie that the Queen is somehow racist, presiding over a racist institution.”
Contrary to the thoughts of Morgan, it is widely acknowledged that the expansion of the commonwealth also gave rise to racism.
Morgan has claimed to have the support of the British public, but some may draw the line at speaking for the dead. Diana had a notoriously troubled relationship with the monarchy and this attack seems unsubstantiated.
Furthermore, with the attacks becoming more personal some may begin to think that Morgan is taking the whole affair more personally than they should.
There will likely be more comments from Morgan in the future.
