All eyes are on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle again, following the announcement they won’t be rejoining the Royal Family.

A statement was released last week from the couple and also from Buckingham Palace, but in a new interview, Prince Harry says all is not as it seems.

He was talking to James Corden last night (Thursday) on The Late Late Show, with the pair travelling around Los Angeles on an open-air bus with afternoon tea.

How marvellous. Harry seemed in good spirits and had a laugh with James throughout.

Harry insists “I did not walk away”, but said the British press was affecting his mental health so he had to leave.

He described it as a “really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw”.

“We all know what the British press can be like. And it was destroying my mental health. I was like… ‘this is toxic’.”

“But we never walked away – and as far as I’m concerned, what decisions are made on that side – I will never walk away.”

“I will always be contributing – my life is public service – so wherever I am in the world it is going to be the same thing.”

He appears to be referencing the statement that Buckingham Palace released last week.

Harry says he and wife Meghan are “trying to bring some compassion and try to make people happy and change the world in any small way we can”.

The Crown

The Crown has long been a stone in the shoe of the Royal Family, but Prince Harry says he doesn’t mind it. Of the TV series, he says:  “They don’t pretend to be news – it’s fictional. But it’s loosely based on the truth.

“Of course it’s not strictly accurate, but it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle – the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else – what can come from that.”

He added: “I’m way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, or my wife or myself.”

“Because it’s the difference between fiction – take it how you will – but this [news reports] is being reported on as fact because you’re supposedly news. I have a real issue with that.”

He has no doubt at all about who he would like to play him in the series, another famous red-head: “Damian Lewis”.

Harry also revealed how he knew that Meghan was “the one” on their second date. It didn’t take long at all.

“It wasn’t so much where we went but the fact we hit it off with each other, and we were just so comfortable in each other’s company,”

“Dating me or any member of the Royal Family is kind of flipped upside down. All the dates become dinners or watching the TV or chatting at home.”

He recalled the early days fondly, saying they spent “an enormous time” getting to know each other, and called it “an amazing thing”.

“We went from zero to 60 in the first two months.”

Meghan appeared in the interview via FaceTime.

Harry and James visited the house from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Corden joked they should buy the house.

Over FaceTime, Meghan said: “I think we’ve done enough moving”.

Harry ended up using the toilet in the famous house, asking the owner: “I’m actually dying for a pee. Can I use your bathroom?” he said, before heading for a toilet break.

If you’ve ever wondered what the Royal Family buy each other for Christmas, you’re in luck.

Harry spilled the beans about what his grandmother the Queen, bought for his son Archie.

A waffle-maker!

“My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle-maker. So she sent a waffle-maker for Archie!”

These aren’t just any waffles though. He says Meghan makes waffles with a “beautiful organic mix” and they eat them with berries and syrup.

Zoom Calls

We’ve all spent more time than ever on Zoom over the last year, so it comes as no surprise that the Queen and Prince Philip, know how to use it.

Harry jokes that Philip just physically shuts the laptop to end the call rather than clicking to end it.

Family life seems to suit Harry, describing his 18 month old son Archie as “hysterical.”

“He has the most amazing personality and is already putting three or four words together, he’s already singing songs,” he said.

Archie’s first word was “crocodile”, apparently.

Meghan is expecting their second child.

Elsewhere in the interview, James put Harry’s fitness to the test and fans were impressed.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in the coming weeks where they are expected to reveal even more details about their lives.
