Reports claim that the Queen is saddened by the Oprah interview, which saw Prince Harry and Meghan Markle accuse a member of the monarchy of making racist comments.

The royal family has had a troubled history with racism, Prince Phillip, Prince Andrew and Prince Charles have all made racist comments in public that have shocked people. Despite this, the Queen has reportedly been saddened by the comments of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that claimed that there were racist concerns about their first child.

An insider told The Sun, “She [The Queen] is not angry, she is just sad. They have always worried about him [Harry] and the Queen feels very protective about him. They always tried to support him when Meghan came along. They all worried less about him when Meghan was on the scene as he seemed so happy.”

This report from an insider seemingly echoes a previous statement made by the Royal Family in response to the claims of racism within the family, “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

This statement also noted, “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members”

The interview with Oprah outlined Meghan Markle’s claims that when she asked for help regarding the press and her mental well-being she was denied any assistance. It is unclear whether the ‘support’ this insider has suggested refers to Markle’s attempts to get help or whether it was just initial enthusiasm for the couple.

At the moment, the claims of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appear to be very damaging. Harry’s brother, Prince William has begun to address the situation but questions still linger. Prince William stated that ‘we are very much not a racist family’ despite the previous statements made by his father, uncle, and grandfather. William also noted that he hadn’t contacted, Markle or his brother about the claims which raised questions about how seriously concerned the monarch was about the situation.

A royal investigation is now underway, although it has been publicised to a much lesser extent than claims that Markle was a bully, and it will be interesting to see what the monarchy uncovers. Many fans of the monarchy will be keen to find out the situation and see whether the family can recover.

It is unclear whether the investigation of the racism claims will be made public.
