Rami Malek is set to play a “formidable” villain in the upcoming James Bond film and the actor, as well as the team behind the film, have explained what makes the character so interesting.

Academy Award winner Rami Malek has discussed what makes the villain known as Safin dangerous in the new James Bond film. The actor explained the unique perspective of the antagonist:

“What I really wanted from Safin was to make him unsettling, thinking of himself as being heroic.”

Malek also added that James Bond has to “adapt” to the kind of threat that this character presents and it seems that many are eager to see how the actor brings this revenge-driven character to life.

Much like the previous antagonist in Skyfall, Raoul Silva this character is set to raise moral questions and towards the end of the clip Safin states, “We both eradicate people to make the world a better place.” The director of the film, Cary Joji Fukunaga, spoke about the character stating, “What he wants and what he’s willing to do makes him a very frightening character, both personally to Bond but also on a global level.” This kind of threat will undoubtedly intrigue some viewers and fans have already engaged in theories about Safin.

Given these stakes and the title of the film, many feel that this character may actually be Dr No.

With these theories in mind, many will be interested to see how Safin develops in the film and whether his villainous acts will tie into the franchise on a grander scale.

The film is set to be the last James Bond iteration to feature Daniel Craig and with that comes exciting new possibilities in terms of casting and the direction of the franchise. It will be equally fascinating to see if Safin becomes a reoccurring character after this film.

No Time To Die is set to arrive in cinemas November 12, 2020.
