And why the f**k should he? There’s a hell of a lot that needs to be said publicly and loudly right now in this country.
The 21-year-old British rapper has sent social media into meltdown tonight after calling the Prime Minister a “real racist” during a live performance at tonight’s Brit Awards in London.
During a live rendition of his hit rap Black, the young star started freestyling and used the opportunity to speak out against Boris Johnson.
“It is racist, even if it doesn’t feel racist. The truth is our Prime Minister is the real racist.”
Dave rapped the following during his performance:
“How the news treats Kate versus how they treat Meghan
“Rest in peace, Jack Merritt, you’re my brother in arms
“There’s tears in our eyes and love in our hearts
“We never had the same background, culture, colour or past,
“But you devoted your life to giving others a chance
“And for that, I’m so taken aback Because it gave us all a voice, I have to say it for Jack.”
He continued to freestyle, using the platform to comment on the Windrush Scandal, Grenfell and Jack Merritt, a victim of the 2019 London Bridge attack.
“We want rehabilitation, now that would be amazing
“But Grenfell victims still need accommodation
“And we still need support for the Windrush generation
“Reparations, for the time our people spent on plantations.”
Twitter users have been praising Dave for his bold performance this evening.
One user wrote:
“OMG Dave could have done any of his songs and he chose to do ‘Black’ what a f**king icon.”
“Rappers who speak their hearts about actual topics they’re passionate about & using their platform to make a change, gain my up most respect. Stormzy & Dave are actual stars.”
A third tweeted:
“#BritAwards DAVE IS A F*CKING KING. THIS PERFORMANCE IS BEAUTIFUL AND IS GIVING EVERYONE THE MESSAGE THAT NEEDS TO BE HEARD. A KING THATS ALL.”
No doubt the daring performance is destined to go down in Brit Awards history.
Take note, world. This is how you use a public platform correctly.
