Much of 2019 is about ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’, oh, and a little-known film called ‘The Revengers’ or something like that, but for me, I’m hoping it’s the year of new ‘Rick and Morty.’

The incredibly smart and nuanced humour has turned the show into a cult favourite, meaning its legions of fans are hungry for new episodes.

Back in May, Adult Swim confirmed that 70 more episodes had been commissioned, with co-creator Justin Roiland marking the news with this special drawing of the titular characters.

Since then, everything on the R and M front has been quiet, until now that is, as Channel 4 will exclusively air the fourth season of the sh0w as part of a new deal to bring it to British TV.

It will be the first time the show has been aired on free-to-air UK and Ireland television and is part of a new partnership that will see boxsets of Adult Swim content being made available to stream for free on All 4, alongside programmes from VICE and Walter Presents.

Although an air date for season four is yet to emerge, the previous three seasons of the acclaimed animation will be shown on E4 from the start of February.

Wubbalubbadubdub!

Ian Katz, Channel 4 Director of Programmes, said:

Rick and Morty is one of the most anarchic, ingenious and original shows around and the breakthrough animated hit of recent years. I’m thrilled that it’s coming to Channel 4 and E4.”

Other shows coming to the platform include Robot Chicken, The Eric Andre ShowThe Venture Bros and Tim & Eric’s Awesome Show.

Karl Warner, Controller E4 said:

“Adult Swim’s amazing mix of original ideas and anarchic comedy is the perfect brand partner in E4’s evolution.”

Charlie Palmer, Managing Editor All 4, added:

“Adult Swim is a fantastic brand with a clear proposition and a devoted fan base. I’m delighted to have it join VICE and Walter Presents as a featured channel on All 4.”

This comes after Adult Swim’s official Twitter account recently shared a trippy, fifteen-second video imagining the titular pair as everything from fish to planets to Godzilla, leading some – some – to believe that it was footage from season four.

However, most people were just p*ssed it wasn’t a trailer.

We’re getting there though, people.

Slowly but surely, Rick and Morty season four is creeping closer.
