Gangs of London is coming to Sky, with the trailer dropping overnight, showing a brutal and bloody affair.

I used to play a game on my PSP called Gangs of London. It was really bad. I do hope this TV series doesn’t have anything to do with that game, otherwise I probably won’t be watching it.

It doesn’t. In fact, Gangs of London has already been likened to a modern-day Peaky Blinders, even with Joe Cole – the guy who played John Shelby, not the former Chelsea winger – showing up as the main character.

Cole stars as the ‘volatile and impulsive’ Sean Wallace in a ‘Gotham-like’ London, who must try to restore balance and find those responsible after the assassination of his father, the head of one particular gang.

Directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid), Corin Hardy and Xavier Gens, the series will also feature the likes of Sope Dirisu (Humans), Colm Meaney (Layer Cake), Lucian MsaMati (His Dark Materials), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones), Paapa Essiedu (Kiri) and Pippa Bennett-Warner (Sick Note).

What’s it about?

A Sky press release explained:

For 20 years, Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney) was the most powerful criminal in London. Billions of pounds flowed through his organisation each year. But now he’s dead – and nobody knows who ordered the hit.

With rivals everywhere, it’s up to the impulsive Sean Wallace (Joe Cole), with the help of the Dumani family headed by Ed Dumani (Lucian Msamati) to take his father’s place. If the situation wasn’t already dangerous enough, Sean’s assumption of power causes ripples in the world of international crime.

Perhaps the one man who might be able to help him and be his ally is Elliot Finch (Sope Dirsu), who up until now, has been one of life’s losers, a lowlife chancer with a mysterious interest in the Wallace family.

But as the wind of fate blows, Elliot finds himself transported to the inner workings of the largest criminal organisation in London.”
