Snoop Dogg has made a lullaby album for infants called Lullaby Renditions of Snoop Dogg

Instrumental versions of hits like Drop It Like It’s Hot will soon be available for tots.

Yeah, f*ck Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

There’s plenty of strong contenders already and there’s still a month to go, but Snoop Dogg releasing lullabies has definitely made it into the running for top story of 2019 in my book.

Basically, if I never in my wildest dreams imagined I’d ever be writing it up, it’s an immediate contender.

Snoop Dogg

We all know Snoop’s a big fan of all sorts of different styles of music. In addition to rap and hip-hop, he’s dipped into the likes of reggae, funk and gospel over the years. And I know he likes to drop bombshells on us from time to time, like, for example when he revealed that he was voicing Cousin It in the latest Addams Family revival (abysmal, btw) or when he self-declared himself as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. He’s creative and spontaneous; I’m totally here for it – but this one floored me.

Here’s the full track list (imagine these being played by soothing strings, harps and a piano in a nursery):

5. Lay Low
6. Sensual Seduction
7. Young, Wild & Free
8. Snoop’s Upside Ya Head
9. California Roll
10. Trust Me
11. Slow Down
12. Doggy Dogg World

The new album is set to be released on 6th December, but a vinyl version will be released ahead of that on 29th November to coincide with Record Store Day.

In other Snoop news…

The 48-year-old rapper released his 17th album I Wanna Thank Me earlier this year, and is set to tour the UK in April 2020. I wonder if any new British baby fans of his will be getting tickets for Christmas…

All I know is, I’m at that age now where all my friends have babies and I never know what to buy any of them; until now – thanks, Snoop.

I have to applaud the guy for his endless spontaneity – it keeps old hack journalists like me on our toes and craving more and more. With all that being said – and as tremendous as a Snoop dog lullaby album is – this news still doesn’t beat Snoop Dogg calling out Kanye West’s new Yeezy slides for looking like prison shoes back in October:

She been getting dudes out of jail now he gone sell jail slippers. W. T.F. None of my bidness”.

That one keeps me young.

If the Spice Girls ever decide to follow suit and release a lullaby album, I might actually consider having children one day, FYI. In fact, my sleep’s been far from grand this week – I think an instrumental version of Say You’ll Be There would sort that right out.
