South Park has always provided social commentary and this looks set to continue in an hour-long “Pandemic Special.”

Since its inception in 1997, every season of South Park has offered a new humorous jab at current affairs and it seems that the creators are keen to carry this on. The hour-long special entitled the “The Pandemic Special” is set to air on September 30 and the trailer has created anticipation for the extended episode.

The trailer shows a variety of situations that poke fun at the current situation, ranging from screens in the classroom to discount sales because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, fans are keen to see what creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have produced.

However, some are concerned about the message the programme will send particularly as there are still disagreements about wearing masks.

It will be interesting to see how the special episode navigates these issues, but many are just hoping for some comedic relief given the current situation.

The special airs on Comedy Central, September 30.
