Numerous people are smiling and enlivened when they heard the song "Last Christmas." However, a Swedish couple raises large money to remove "last Christmas" from music charts. The couple named Tomas Mazetti and her wife Hannah has raised £50,000 ($60,404) online to buy the rights to the Wham! song "Last Christmas."
They did this so they would never have to hear the song again. Hannah said that she started to dislike the song 12 years ago when her boss kept playing it over and over in the Oxford café where she worked. She said:
He was only in now and then, so he didn't fully appreciate the agony the rest of the staff felt when Last Christmas played for the 111th time of the working day.
In retrospect, she stated that her friends shared her sentiments and that she suggested they purchase the rights. Hannah added:
Someone told us it was theoretically possible to buy the rights to the song and then take it of all streaming platforms!
But the rights to the song are not cheap. Warner Chappell MusicUK owns them right now, and they are worth between $15 million and $25 million. To enter into negotiations with the record company, they need to raise $15 million. If they are successful, the couple plans to deposit the master tape in a nuclear waste repository in Finland, where it will remain dormant for at least two million years.
They did say, though, that they have nothing against the band Wham!, but that they felt like they had to do something for other people in the same situation. They shared:
It is because it is being played 5,000 times per day, but we felt something had to be done to support the people that suffer like us.

"Last Christmas" By Wham!

The British pop duo Wham! wrote the song "Last Christmas." It was written and produced by George Michael. It has been called the "high watermark of mid-1980s British synthpop songcraft," and many artists have covered it since it came out. When it came out in 1984, "Last Christmas" spent five weeks in a row at number two on the UK Singles Chart.
At Christmas, Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" beat it to the top spot (on which Michael also performed). The song finally hit number one on the UK Singles Chart on January 1, 2021, after many years on the charts, including three more weeks at number two, and the recording being added to RCA Records' catalog.
Outside of the UK, the song reached the top of the charts in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Slovenia, and Sweden. It also reached the top ten in Australia, Canada, the US, and several other countries. Wham! gave all of their royalties to help people in need through relief efforts and other good causes.

"Last Christmas" By Wham! Lyrics

Wham! - Last Christmas (Official Video)

Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance, but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby, do you recognize me?
Well, it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me
Happy Christmas, I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I love you", I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now, I know you'd fool me again
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
OohOh, oh, baby
A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you and your soul of ice
My God, I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover, but you tore me apart
Oh, oh now I've found a real love
You'll never fool me again
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special, special
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Special
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart (I gave you mine)
A man under cover but you tore him apart
Maybe next year I'll give it to someone
I'll give it to someone special
Special
So long

Final Words

Are there any songs that you despise so much that you'd do anything to keep them off the radio and television? This goal is being pursued by a couple from Sweden who are collecting donations. Most of the time, Christmas is a happy time, but some of the traditional songs aren't the happiest and brightest you could find.
One of these songs is "Last Christmas" by Wham. It's about a person who gave their heart to someone, but that person turned them down and went with someone else. This music, like this couple, is sad and can lower one's mood. That's why Taylor Swift decided to cover it. You can hear it online. This could alter your mood in this version.
