Horror-comedies are one of those genres of films that are notoriously tricky to get right.
Get Out (kind of), Shaun Of The Dead and Zombieland are a few of the success stories, but for every one of them there’s 10 Lesbian Vampire Killers.
(How James Corden went from that steaming pile of horse sh*t to having his own slot on late-night American television is beyond me.)
Talk about turn around.
Still, horror-comedies are hit and miss, but before director Taika Waititi was bossing Thor and Hulk around in Thor: Ragnarok he was busy filming various creatures of the night in one of the greatest vampire movies of all time: What We Do in the Shadows.
And now the eagerly anticipated first trailer for the vampire mock-doc comedy’s small screen debut has arrived and it looks nothing short of excellent.
Check it out, folks!
The film follows Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), a trio of vampires living in New York City who struggle to adapt to the modern day world, who with the help of Guillermo (Harvey Guillen), Nandor’s human assistant, who encourages them to adapt to their new environment.
If the trailer’s anything to go by they’ve certainly kept hold of their dry New Zealand tone, and it’ll be interesting to see them attempt to ‘crack’ America.
The the series will debut in the US on 27 March – and I wouldn’t expect it to arrive on our shores much long after.

Charismatic, witty, charming, engaging - four things Joshua Rogers will never be. Thankfully, he’s a semi-competent writer, who, after graduating university with two mostly pointless degrees, joined The Hook two years ago. Since then, he has honed his writing skills over the course of various sex related articles. Now, at the tender age of 26, he’s finally finished experimenting with (on) himself.
