Netflix has made some exciting announcements this week about new releases coming to the streaming platform.

They’ve got plenty of new shows to be excited about (more on those later) but one announcement overshadowed them all.

The US version of The Office is returning to the UK version of Netflix. It was removed five years ago, and fans are very happy to have it back.

It has previously only been available on Amazon Prime.

It’s salt in the wound for fans in the US though, after it was also announced that they’re losing the series in January. For five years.

Steve Carrell stars in the series, and it’s the most-watched show on US Netflix. It will be removed on December 31st.

The show has given us many memes and gifs over the years, and it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

The loss is because NBC announced back in 2019 that it has the rights to exclusively air the show for five years. This means The Office won’t be back on Netflix until at least 2026.

A report in 2018 showed that subscribers spent more minutes watching The Office than any other TV show. Will it have the same success on UK Netflix?

Gossip Girl but make it a period drama

One other show that has got fans all excited is Bridgerton. It’s arriving on Christmas Day.

The period drama is part of a deal between Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and Netflix.

Set in Regency-era London, Bridgerton is an eight-part show based on Julia Quinn’s series of historical romance novels. Fans are very excited by the amount of POC in the cast.

It tells the stories of high society men and women looking for love. There’s plenty of drama, scandal and intrigue along the way.

Julie Andrews also features as the voice of Lady Whistledown. She is an anonymous character who writes pamphlets about the scandals. Gossip Girl with corsets, what’s not to love?

Will you be watching?
