The woman in the now-viral video that shows her licking an opened tub of ice cream before placing it back in the shop freezer could face 20 years in prison.

Filmed in Lufkin, Texas, a woman can be seen opening a tub of Blue Bell ice cream. She then licks the top of the contents after being told to be the person behind the camera, who says:

Lick it, lick it. Oh, you foul. Put it back, put it back.”

She then looks weirdly proud of herself as the two run off.

This has turned into far more of a saga than I think anyone could have anticipated, to be honest, but there’s just so much about it to digest.

Like why does they guy filming say “Lick it, lick it” and then “Oh, you foul” when she does? That’s like football fans tell a player to shoot and when they do, they get pissed off. That’s like Granit Xhaka’s life.

The woman – now grossly branded the ‘Blue Bell Licker’ – even sparked a couple of copycat crims, namely Twitter user @GAYSHAWNMENDES, who actually got caught up to by the police later on…

And it’s the police we’re talking about here, as they’re looking for the woman from the first video.

Lufkin Police detectives believe they’ve found the woman from CCTV footage, but are still working on identifying the man behind the camera. They told CBS News that they intend to arrest the woman on a charge of second-degree felony tampering with a consumer product, which carries a punishment of 2-20 years and up to a $10,000 fine.

That’s a long time. The likelihood is that the woman won’t get a punishment anywhere near that, but there’s still the case of authorities wanting to make an example of her.

It was a gross, stupid, pathetic and potentially harmful thing to do, but it’s not quite 20 years bad.

Lufkin Director of Public Safety Gerald Williamson said in a statement:

We’re appalled that someone would do this. We take it incredibly seriously and we’re acting on it as the major crime that it is.
