The world was collectively saddened when they heard the news of Stan Lee’s passing. The legendary superhero creator and Marvel cameo extraordinaire was important for a number of reasons, not just for introducing the world to Spider-Man, but for his progressive attitudes towards women, race and religion.

The world lost a good one, alright.

As I’ve already alluded to, Stan’s cameos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – or MCU if you know your shiz – have become somewhat iconic, with him usually featuring as a bus driver, neighbour, or librarian who’s completely oblivious to the superhero mayhem going on behind him.

And with Captain Marvel’s bow at the box office coming this week, you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’ve seen the last of Stan on the big screen.

But you’d be wrong. Crazy wrong.

Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have revealed that there will be a “really emotional” Stan Lee tribute in the upcoming film, and I’m willing to bet it’ll bring you to tears.

Speaking to Metro, Boden said:

“I don’t want to say anything I’m not supposed to say, but just that it was…we did want to kind of have a moment and tribute to Stan Lee in this movie, obviously.

“It was something that came from Marvel and when they showed it to us, there swas not a dry eye in the house. It was really emotional.”

Of course, Stan did appear in the frankly brilliant Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, saying that he misses Spider-Man and that they were friends. It was a real tearjerker and felt like a way of saying goodbye to fans.

As it turns out, though, he actually crops up a number of times in the film. Several animators and people shared them via Twitter and I’ll be damned – he really was hiding in there.

Clever, ey.

We’ll sit tight to see where and when he pops up in Captain Marvel when it lands later this week.

Watch this space.
