One of the joys of being an adult is being able to eat what you want, when you want. Kids everywhere long for the day that they can eat dessert first if they like, or having cereal for dinner.
It seems though that some of us have bent the rules a little bit too far with some frankly bizarre food combinations. Sure, there’s always the arguments over whether Marmite or sprouts are the devil’s foodstuff, but what about eating fish fingers with custard, or hot dogs and jam?
It sounds like the stuff of an Alice In Wonderland tea party, but a new survey has revealed the strangest food combinations that Brits like to eat.
2,000 adults were surveyed, and results also included mayonnaise on toast, pasta sandwiches, and Weetabix with butter.
There are also three different variants of sugar sandwiches.
Banana and bacon? We had to see this picture so now you do too.

Can’t decide between tea or coffee? Be inspired by one maverick and have both in one cup! How about dipping fries in your milkshake?
Thanks to Dr Who citing it as a favourite food of the eleventh Doctor, fish fingers and custard have become an untoward culinary combination.

The survey was run by Ocado, and they’ve teamed up with food flavour expert and author of The Flavour Thesaurus, Niki Segnit. She’s revealed some of her favourite unusual combinations too.
Niki said: “Everyone knows the traditional food combinations like bangers and mash, or fish with chips, but have you ever tried coffee and orange, or spinach and strawberry? There are many wonderful matches to be discovered, and you don’t need a PhD in molecular gastronomy to start experimenting. Interesting and unusual flavour matches can be made with common store-cupboard ingredients, like cheese and marmalade, or chocolate and aubergine.”
