Netflix UK and Ireland has revealed its top 10 movies, series and documentaries of 2019 and the top spots might surprise you

Except one.

I mean, come on, The Witcher was always going to come out on top after THAT bath tub scene, wasn’t it? At least in my book.

Netflix UK and Ireland has released lists of its most popular films, shows and documentaries across all its major regions – as opposed to viewing figures, like terrestrial channels. There are seven top ten lists for the UK and Ireland, featuring some of the streaming services most popular films and shows like The Witcher, Stranger Things, Sex Education, Murder Mystery and The Irishman.

The Witcher named top series by Netflix UK and Ireland

Unsurprisingly, new fantasy series The Witcher (which btw, hasn’t even been out two weeks yet) starring Henry Cavill found its way to the top of the list. The new 10-part series was followed by After Life in at number two and Stranger Things 3 at number 3. Interestingly, Stranger Things 3 beat The Witcher to the top spot on the Netflix US chart.

But, America…

Okay, I’ll say it… where the f**k is The Crown? I mean Olivia Coleman AND Helen Bonham Carter couldn’t get Season 3 a placement in the top ten? Jeez. My parents will not be happy.

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann named most popular Netflix documentary of 2019

True crime was certainly the theme of this top ten list, with The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann nabbing the top spot, True crime docs, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. and The Devil Next Door were also named. Documentary of the moment Don’t F**ck with Cats: Hunting an Internet came in at number four and if you haven’t seen it, abandon this article immediately and watch it right now. Cancel your New Year’s Eve plans, too. Unreal is the word.

Here are the top ten:

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Our Planet
Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes
Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer
FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened
Abducted in Plain Sight
The Devil Next Door
I AM A KILLER
The Great Hack
Dirty John: The Dirty Truth

6 Underground named most popular movie of 2019

To be honest, I’m actually quite surprised by this ordering – mainly with 6 Underground’s placement. In my opinion, Murder Mystery was this year’s movie win for Netflix, but then again, it didn’t have Ryan Reynolds in it, did it?

Here are the top ten:

6 Underground
Murder Mystery
The Irishman
Isn’t It Romantic
Triple Frontier
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
Fractured
Secret Obsession
The Highwayman

Morbid, but I can hardly say I’m surprised. This one caused shockwaves across social media.

6 Underground
Murder Mystery
The Witcher
The Irishman
After Life
Stranger Things 3

Netflix also revealed Jack Whitehall: Christmas with My Father as its top stand-up show of 2019, Raising Dion as its most popular kids/family series of 2019 and Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father as its most popular non-fiction release of 2019.
